Alchemy Station and Bridgette Mayer Gallery present Rutstein’s large scale sculpture and light commission, Shimmer II, at the new Allston Labworks Building in Boston, Massachusetts.
“Rebecca Rutstein’s art plunges deep into the intersection of science, technology, and imagination, drawing inspiration from her global expeditions with leading scientists. Inspired by these extraordinary moments, her undulating sculptures pulse with programmable LED lights, echoing the bioluminescent glow of the ocean’s depths. The seven hexagonal forms are inspired by hydrocarbon structures that form through dynamic processes on the ocean floor and were custom designed to create poetic movement along the wall. Rutstein collaborates with scientists and transforms invisible worlds into powerful visual experiences, urging us to marvel at and protect the natural wonders hidden beneath the surface.”
